The other day we were riding home in the car. It was me, the kids, and one of Emma’s friends. This is when someone brought up the topic of Momo. I didn’t know anything about it, so some of the kids began telling me about.
Momo is a scary character that has been embedded into YouTube videos by trolling adults with the intention of disturbing young children. This phenomenon is disturbing enough that simply mentioning its name was enough to bring Emma’s friend to tears, asking everyone to stop talking about it. I reminded everyone that this thing is fake, that it has no actual ability to harm, and that Jesus casts out all demons.
I couldn’t help but be proud of my children in this moment though. They weren’t scared or disturbed the way our guest was. It’s not that they’re so accustomed to horror movies that they have a thick skin for this stuff; we don’t watch horror movies in our home. And they even knew about it before I did, so I never had an opportunity to warn them or prepare them about it. But they all handled it well and had a solid understanding of its fictional nature and inability to affect them.
After thinking about this some more I count my blessings, and don’t want to take it for granted. This is because of the blood of Jesus that covers our home. Spirits of death like this have to pass over and go elsewhere. I’m forever thankful for the armor he provides and his wisdom to navigate truth from fiction & lies.
