Are people really like cars?

I’ve heard a lot of people make the following statement to justify their lack of values regarding sex and committed relationships:

You wouldn’t buy a car without test driving it first, would you?

Well, allow me to remind you of a few other commonly known facts about how people treat cars:

  • A lot of people test drive vehicles with no intention on really purchasing it. Maybe they aren’t prepared or can’t handle the costs, maybe they don’t want all of the responsibility that comes along with it, or maybe (just maybe) they want the experience of taking it for a joy ride with no strings attached.
  • People don’t think twice about sharing their vehicle with friends or family.
  • After a vehicle experiences some wear and tear, and accumulates higher miles, owners frequently trade them in for newer models.
  • In fact people often replace their cars every couple years.

I’ve never felt comfortable with the car analogy, but if I did I would want to keep mine protected and running smoothly until one of us dies.
